AVA Draft Code of Professional Conduct

The AVA Code of Professional Conduct has been the subject of review, consultation process and redrafting.

You will find a copy of the Draft Code of Professional Conduct later in the September issue of the Australian Veterinary Journal.

The Code of Professional Conduct has changed significantly from previous versions. It now includes a Code of Ethics that applies to all members of the Association and a Code of Veterinary Professional Conduct that applies to ‘Full Members’ of the AVA.

The legislative environment has become increasingly complex since the last edition of the Code of Conduct. A draft of the legislative environment is outlined and included in the code (Appendix 1 of the Draft Code of Professional Conduct).

The AVA considers that the code acts to encourage professionalism, rather than having a punitive function. However, processes related to the code are included in the Code of Professional Conduct.

We value your feedback and comments on any aspect of the draft code. Please send them via email to: codeofconduct@ava.com.au by COB 27 September 2017.

A discussion forum has also been added to the AVA website.
