AVA’s new policy on equality, diversity and inclusion

At the AVA Board meeting in September, the Board ratified a policy on equality, diversity and inclusion, which is available to view on the AVA website.

The policy states that the AVA is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the profession. These qualities are integral to the AVA’s values of support for professionalism, knowledge, community, adaptability and respect.

The AVA believes that it’s important to actively support diversity and inclusion in our membership, leadership and organisation and we have an ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive culture, free from discrimination, sexual harassment, bullying, vilification or victimisation.

The AVA will treat any behaviour that breaches its Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy seriously and will take active steps to address such incidences through the AVA’s Code of Professional Conduct. The AVA’s Constitution includes processes that allow it to act in relation to complaints against members who behave in such a way as to bring the Association into disrepute, including breaches of any Code of Professional Conduct.

Supporting our members’ health and wellbeing is a priority for the AVA and we urge members to reach out during times of stress or anxiety. We have a 24-hour telephone counselling service available for members and we encourage any of our members in need of support and advice to call and speak to a qualified counsellor.

Log in to the AVA website to access the hotline as well as additonal resources on health and wellbeing.
