The AVA 2018 photography competition

We are always looking for photographs to grace the covers of the AVJ and to use in our newsletters, on the website and in social media.

2018 competition

We’re running three competition categories:

  • animals
  • human–animal bond
  • veterinarians and nurses at work.

Whatever species you work with – captive camels, delectable dogs, feral felines, high- stepping horses, screeching sulphur-crested cockatoos or even peculiar parasites – then we want to see your images. Finalists will be highlighted in the AVJ pages.

Submission rules

  • Images must be in sharp focus, a minimum of 300 dpi and a minimum of 150 mm at the longest edge.
  • Winners will need to provide their AVA member number or that of their employer.
  • No more than 6 images per person can be submitted.
  • By entering the competition you are giving permission to AVA to use your images in AVA communications.
  • Cover images must be portrait format, at least 210 x 275 mm at 300 dpi. Allow space in your image for the AVJ masthead and content headlines down one or both sides of the image (see sample right).
  • Captions must be provided with each image
  • Other terms and conditions may apply.

Low-resolution photographs cannot be accepted for printing. We recommend using an SLR camera to achieve high quality results.

Read the full list of terms and conditions and enter.

Winners and finalists will be published in the AVJ and displayed at the 2018 AVA Annual Conference in Brisbane. They will also receive a framed print of their AVJ front cover image plus bragging rights! There will also be prizes for the AVA staff favourites.

Closing date: 31 January 2018

I look forward to seeing your photos.
