Canine Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Scheme
In January 2000, the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) established the AVA/ANKC Canine Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Scheme (CHEDS) to reduce hip and elbow disease in registered pure bred dogs.
The scheme is administered by the ACT Division of the AVA. Rostered members of the radiology chapter of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists consider x-rays for hip and elbow assessment, which is then recorded by the AVA. Owners should expect results to be at their veterinary surgeons practice within four weeks.
The assessment costs $66 for hips and $18 for elbows (including GST).
To participate in the scheme complete the application form and send it along with all the necessary documentation, including correctly labelled radiographs and payment to:
Australian Veterinary Association
ACT Division office
PO Box 4257 Kingston ACT 2604
Please read information sheet for veterinarians carefully prior to submitting the application. To pay by credit card download the payment form.
For more information contact the ACT Division office on 02 6273 0064 or avaact [at] ava [dot] com [dot] au, or read the AVA/ANKC Hip and Elbow Scheme procedural manual.
