National

The national association develops policies, coordinates media and national advocacy campaigns, usually with working groups or task forces of members from across the country.

The AVA national office provides support and services to the whole organisation.

National functions also include leading the association’s scientific, continuing professional development, and professional standards activities.

We also have a role to play on the world stage. We work alongside other veterinary associations to raise awareness of the importance of closer ties between human, animal and environmental health disciplines – One Health.

We contribute to advancing scientific knowledge by publishing a well-respected international peer-reviewed journal. We understand issues facing the world such as food security and safety, climate change and emerging diseases. We play a role in increasing understanding of these global issues within Australia, and promoting a balanced approach to animal welfare.
