Retired Veterinarians' Luncheon
The first Luncheon for 2018 will be held on Wednesday 2 May at 12 noon and again will be held at Graduate House, 220 Leicester Street, Carlton.   Lunch will consist of two courses, tea/coffee and drinks will be available at bar prices. The Luncheon's presentation will be on  "Veterinary Science and Aquaculture" and will be presented by Dr. Paul Hardy-Smith, Consultant, Panquatic Health Solutions.


Dr Paul Hardy-Smith will outline the role of an aquaculture consultant, the role aquaculture plays in food production and opportunities for the future as well as fish welfare.


About the Speaker

Dr Paul Hardy-Smith

Paul Hardy-Smith graduated from the Melbourne Veterinary School in 1987 and worked in mixed practices primarily in Western Victoria 1988-1995. In 1995 Paul gained a graduate diploma in Aquaculture from Deakin University. In 1991 Paul worked on a salmon farm in British Columbia, Canada and from1995-1999, he was the aquatic animal veterinarian for the Tasmanian Government focussed on diagnostics, treatments for aquatic conditions and the development of regulations and had input to the National aquatic exotic disease policy and import/export guidelines. Leaving government service in Tasmania, Paul was production veterinarian for Heritage Salmon Ltd in British Columbia, Canada 1999-2003. Heritage Salmon produced around 15 000 tonne of salmon annually. Paul was responsible for the management of and control of the major diseases of salmon, in farm biosecurity and fish quality and marketing.  In 2003, Dr Hardy-Smith established Panquatic Health Solutions and since has been a consultant to the aquatic industry, large and small, and governments in Australia, Canada, USA and Asian countries including Thailand, China and Malaysia.
