Country vets needed for Australian Year of the Farmer

The AVA is an official Proud Supporter of Australian Year of the Farmer, a nationwide campaign to celebrate the contribution of agriculture in all its forms to the nation and the world.

Our participation kicked off this month with a media release, and there are activities planned throughout the year to highlight how important vets are to agriculture and also the rural communities where they live and work.

“We’re after some country vets who are keen to talk about their work and the profession to the media and online in social media as well,” said AVA President Barry Smyth.

“There’s so much great work being done by country vets in animal health and welfare, but also in farm consulting, farm biosecurity and disease surveillance.

“This is the perfect opportunity for the AVA to both support our farmers, and also to showcase the veterinary role in agriculture and rural communities,” said Barry.

Our country vet ambassadors will be asked to talk about their work in the media or online through social media – you can let us know what level and type of involvement would suit you. AVA communications staff will help with coordination, support, story ideas, and key messages.

If you’d like to be one of the AVA’s country vet ambassadors, or would like to know more, contact Rena Richmond, Media Relations Manager on 02 9431 5062 or media [at] ava [dot] com [dot] au (media [at] ava [dot] com [dot] au).
