What sort of person becomes a vet?

Vets have a genuine commitment to the well-being of animals and consider the concerns of their owners. As a potential vet you will need to be able to understand, empathise and respect all types of creatures and feel comfortable with them.

Vets need to be able to adapt to the changes in their field and advances in technology. Veterinary science is constantly changing and in some states it is compulsory to refine and update your skills.

The best way to find out if you might be suited to be a vet is to watch one in action. Speak to your school’s careers advisor to organise work experience in a local veterinary hospital.
