Qld News December 2017 SEQ Branch update

SE Qld Branch of AVA held its annual meeting on Thursday 30 November at AVA House in Eight Mile Plains. Our guest speaker for the evening was veterinary goat expert and former Qld Government veterinarian Sandra Baxendell. Sandra outlined how she has used social media to both keep herself informed on happenings in the goat world, and to enhance her professional profile; and how she uses the various forms of social media for particular tasks. It was a very interesting discussion.

Our guest speakers earlier in the year had been biosecurity Queensland vet Lawrence Gavey in May, speaking about the implications of deregulation of Johne’s Disease;  and in August, we heard from UQ production animal specialist Brandon Fraser on analgesia and haemostasis for routine husbandry procedures on farms.

Our first meeting for 2018 is on Thursday 10 May. Johann Schroder is MLA’s R&D Project Manager for Animal Health, Welfare and Biosecurity and will speak about where technology is taking us in terms of the development of animal health products and protocols. We hope to see some of you there.

Best wishes to all for Christmas and 2018.
