AVA members are able to take advantage of savings on their continuing professional development as a valuable member benefit.
Books and journals
AVA members can claim a 20% discount off the price of books published by Wiley.
They can also subcribe at reduced rates to leading international veterinary journals - The Veterinary Record, In Practice, Clinician's Brief, New Zealand Veterinary Journal and Vetscript. (Don't forget that 2 hours of reading can earn you 1 unstructured Vet Ed point.)
AVA members receive a complimentary subscription to Australia's leading veterinary science journal, Australian Veterinary Journal. There are also clinical journals published by the special interest groups (SIGs) Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association, Equine Veterinarians Australia and, Australian Cattle Veterinarians, that are distributed to SIG members. Membership of the behaviour SIG includes a complimentary subscription to Journal of Veterinary Behaviour: Clinical Applications and Research, the only peer-reviewed journal that focuses entirely on veterinary behavioural medicine (six issues a year).
Members also have free access to past issues of international veterinary and medical journals, through EBSCOhost - brought to you by Hill's Pet Nutrition Pty Ltd.
Members are eligible for generous discounts for all AVA education and social events. SIG members are usually able to register at even lower cost for events organised by the SIGs they belong to.
There are arrangements in place with providers of structured online learning courses for AVA members to access special reduced registration rates.
The New Zealand Veterinary Association (NZVA) offers flexible online learning courses for veterinarians. VetScholar courses are tailored to clinical training needs, consisting of modules that can be completed over a 6-week period. These courses are offered to AVA members at a 33% discount.

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) offers different formats of online learning courses, covering a range of topics relevant to companion animal, farm animal and equine clinical practice.
- e-CPD (6-week intensive courses consisting of a mixture of case presentations and assessment, downloadable reference sources, quizzes, weblinks and online asynchronous discussions moderated by expert clinical staff, that can be completed in your own time)
- Webinar Plus (4-week courses, involving a mixture of webinars, online case assessment exercises, supplementary reading material and discussion forums)
- Recorded webinars
