Did you know 2011 is World Veterinary Year?

2011 marks 250 years since the first veterinary school opened in Lyon, France. Since then veterinarians have been working to improve animal and human health by:    

  • tirelessly working to diagnose and treat health problems in domestic, production and wild animals
  • helping to increase food quantity, quality and safety
  • protecting the public by helping prevent zoonoses
  • promoting animal welfare
  • playing a crucial role in biomedical research
  • helping protect the environment and biodiversity.

Vet2011 and its associated members celebrating 250 years of veterinary science. Activities include:

  • veterinary science, veterinary research and veterinary history seminars and conferences held around the world
  • developing a documentary of the birth of the veterinary profession
  • celebratory Vet2011 postage stamps
  • Vet2011 sessions at the AVA Annual conference 2011.

Take part in the celebrations yourself by:

  • displaying a Vet2011 bumper sticker on your car - veted [at] ava [dot] com [dot] au (subject: Vet2011) (request from the AVA)
  • putting up a celebratory poster in your practice - veted [at] ava [dot] com [dot] au (subject: Vet2011) (request from the AVA)
  • have Vet2011 children’s activities available in your practice.

  • take part in the Vet2011 activities organised by AVA and NZVA
  • hold a celebratory community event, such as a BBQ, fair or face-painting day
