Unauthorised Accommodation
Please be vigilant if approached by any company or service other than Ozacomm+ that implies or claims to be an official accommodation provider of AVA Conferences. We have been made aware of other companies or travel agencies that may be aggressively pursuing you, or your company, to book your guest rooms through their company at supposedly significant discounts. Reservations made through these “pirate” agencies or companies will be at your own risk.
The Gold Coast is an easily accessible coastal location with a relaxing holiday ambience and abundant activities.
Located in Broadbeach, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is 20 minutes from the Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta, and a 90-minute drive from Brisbane. Accessed by two international airports, the Gold Coast has direct flights and economical airfares for delegates travelling from around Australia and the rest of the world.

Accessibility

Banks generally open from 0930 – 1600 hours Monday – Friday. General office hours are 0900 – 1700 Monday – Friday. Post Offices operate these hours, however stamps are often available from hotels.

Carer's pass - parents room - child minding
Our carer’ pass gives the Carer access to the conference, exhibition and sessions and allows parents/delegates nursing children to be provided with assistance. The pass does not include catering for carers. To request a pass please contact Kandy Musgrave, National Events Manager - email: eventsmanager@ava.com.au. There is no need to register online. Your Carer’s Pass can be collected at the registration desk upon arrival.
Please note there are no arrangements for child care during the Conference. We suggest you check with your accommodation provider who may be able to assist you further with babysitting services during your stay.
The GCCEC offers a Parents Room that is conveniently located on the Ground Floor near the main entrance of the Centre. Essentials are provided, including a change table, kitchenette, microwave, refrigerator and lounge chairs for nursing.
Currency
The currency of Australia is the Australian Dollar. All prices quoted in the brochure are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST. To check the current exchange rate visit www.xe.com.
Customs
Delegates carrying commercial goods or samples may need to obtain permits for their goods depending on the nature of the goods, regardless of value. Quarantine and wildlife regulations and other restrictions may also apply to certain goods. All travelers must declare amounts of $10,000 or more in foreign or Australian currency (notes and coins) you take into or out of Australia. For more information visit www.customs.gov.au.

Indemnity
In the event of industrial disruption or other unforeseen circumstances the Australian Veterinary Association accepts no responsibility for loss of monies incurred by delay or cancellation.
Insurance
Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. It is strongly recommended that at the time you register for the conference and book your travel you take out an insurance policy of your choice. The policy should include loss of fees/deposit through cancellation of your participation in the conference, or through cancellation of the conference, loss of international/domestic air fares through cancellation for any reason, loss of tour monies through cancellation for any reason including airline or related services strikes within Australia, failure to utilise tours or pre booked arrangements due to airline delay, Force Majeure or any other reason, medical expenses (including sickness and accident cover), loss or damage to personal property, additional expenses and repatriation should travel arrangements have to be altered. The conference managers cannot take any responsibility for any participant failing to arrange their own insurance. This insurance is to be purchased in your country of origin.
International Visa Entry Requirements
International delegates please note: You will need a visa to enter Australia.
All international visitors to Australia (the sole exception being citizens of Australia and New Zealand travelling on Australian and New Zealand passports) must obtain a visa in advance. You are urged to apply for a visa not later than six weeks prior to travel. Residents of many countries may now apply for a visa online, others will need to apply at an Australian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. Queensland Government imposes a strict no smoking policy in venues, restaurants, bars and shopping centres in Brisbane.

Queensland Government Health Direction – Conditions of Entry

COVID Requirements:
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre operates with best practice control and management processes that ensure our venue offers a safe environment.
Our COVID safe practices remain in place and we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and adjust risk management responses accordingly.
Our COVID safe practices include:
Encouraging at least 1.5 metres between individuals
Maintaining good hand and respiratory hygiene
Regular cleaning and disinfecting of venue
Communication, consultation, instruction, training and supervision of team
Hygiene reminder messaging throughout venue
Our safety protocols are subject to change in accordance with Australian Government regulations.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is located 18.3km from Coolangatta airport and takes between 40-60 minutes to get to Broadbeach.
You can purchase a Go Card at the Hub Convenience store inside the terminal for $10. You then add the amount you think you will need for your stay. You can top it up at several locations including 7-Eleven stores.
Simply catch the 700 or 777 bus across from the terminal to Broadbeach South stop (approx. 40 mins) and either walk to your hotel or catch the g-line tram to stops along the Gold Coast. The closest stop to the Convention Centre is Broadbeach North (1 stop).
