VetEd Talks – Passion for the Profession

Following the great success of last year - The AVA is once again offering an exciting and innovative session – VetEd Talks – Passion for the Profession, at the AVA National Conference at the Gold Coast, May 2020. The aim of the session is for veterinarians to present succinct inspirational stories and food for thought to the profession.

We invite anybody who is interested in being a part of the VetEd Talks, to submit an audition video to be reviewed and considered for the 2020 AVA Annual Conference.

To apply, you must be an AVA member and you'll need to submit an audition video of maximum two minute duration. In the video you should introduce:

  • Yourself
  • Your presentation topic
  • Why you feel passionate about the topic
  • Why you would like to share this with the veterinary community

You will need to upload your video to YouTube, set as 'unlisted' and submit a link for the selection committee to review. Click here for instructions on how to upload videos onto YouTube for your convenience.

Applications open between Friday 31 January – Monday 23 March 2020.

Format and Timing

The session will be held as a plenary session on Wednesday, 13 May 2020, from 11.30am – 1.30 pm. Eight shortlisted speakers will present for 10 minutes about their passion in the veterinary profession. This will include invited guests.


  • An inspirational topic with a positive perspective
  • Any science presented must be evidence based


  • Only AVA members can apply
  • All audition videos must be submitted on the online form via the AVA website between Friday 31 January – Monday 23 March 2020
  • A selection committee will shortlist six speakers against internal selection criteria by Thursday 9 April 2020
  • If successful, the successful speakers will be provided with a brief to assist them in preparing their presentation


Due to the expense of getting to the Gold Coast, a remuneration of $350 will be given to speakers traveling from interstate.


A people’s choice award, voted by the audience, will be presented at the end of the session. The winner will receive recognition on the AVA conference website, social media and E-newsletter. They will also receive a free registration to the 2021 AVA Annual Conference in Sydney.
