VBB seeks to achieve a world of better health for animals and people, through delivery of its volunteer-based programs: The Australian Veterinary Emergency Response Team (AVERT), VetMatch, and VetTrain Programs.

AVERT was launched in 2015 and is dependent upon its extensive national database of thousands of volunteer veterinarians and veterinary nurses willing to assist in the response to natural disasters or outbreak of emergency animal disease (EAD) in Australia.

VetMatch entails the deployment of carefully screened veterinary volunteers to assist in the work of selected animal welfare groups, predominantly in developing communities overseas where access to veterinary care is otherwise limited or non-existent and typically where dog population management and rabies control efforts are high priority. In late-2020, VBB launched the Australian arm of the program (VetMatch-AU), deploying experienced veterinary volunteer professionals to assist animal welfare organisations in our own backyard, such as RSPCA, and the Animal Welfare League.

VetTrain provides clinical training courses, delivered by VBB-registered volunteer veterinary teaching staff with relevant postgraduate qualifications and experience. The program hosts these training sessions in countries where continuing veterinary education opportunities are typically very limited. This has significant benefits with respect to the quality and consistency of veterinary care, especially that provided to strays and street dwelling animals.
