Tuesday, 17 March 2020

At this unprecedented time, we are reminded that veterinarians and their staff provide an essential service to Australia’s animals and their owners. AVA’s primary priority is the health and welfare of our members and the service that you provide to the wider community.

As such, on behalf of the AVA Board I wish to advise the following:

AVA Annual Conference – Gold Coast 10-15 May 2020 – Cancelled, but with a “Virtual Conference” in development.

Following recent announcements by Australian government authorities including a ban on large gatherings, the AVA Board has decided to cancel the AVA National Conference this year. I am sure you can imagine the enormous amount of work already been undertaken by our dedicated line-up of speakers, supporters and exhibitors in preparation for the conference.

With this in mind, it is our aim to produce a “Virtual Conference”, that will be available online and leverage this effort. This revised conference will attract Vet Ed points.

Full refunds will be made to those who have registered for the conference already and we will liaise with speakers, sponsors and exhibitors about our “Virtual Conference” plans in the near future.

I would particularly like to thank valued members, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors for your patience and understanding, and I apologise for the inconvenience that this necessary decision will cause. I also wish to thank the Conference Organising Committee for their hard work over the last two years.

All other AVA ‘In-Person’ Conferences and Meetings until June 30.

Conferences, seminars and meetings scheduled, or in development for between now and June 30 will be postponed. New scheduling details will be made available as appropriate and some of these events may also be provided in electronic formats.

Once again, I apologise for the inconvenience that this necessary decision will cause and thank you for your support in this challenging time. We will provide further updates as we progress.

Kind regards,

Corey Snell
Chief Executive Officer
