Overview

Following the results of the Australian Veterinary Workforce Survey 2018/2019, the AVA developed the Employer of Choice (EOC) Program to help develop leading veterinary workplaces through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention. The acute skills shortage in the veterinary profession has made staff attraction and retention critically important to the success of any veterinary practice. The AVA Employer of Choice program has been designed to equip veterinary employers with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to attract and retain great employees.

The AVA Employer of Choice program (online learning program) is complimentary for all AVA members. It's designed for Practice Managers, Owners, or those who work in a management or HR related capacity in practice.

The AVA EOC Program consists of 2 optional surveys (manager survey and employee survey), a flexible and interactive online learning module, plus many resources and templates. The online learning module features 30 best-practice employee retention strategies which include case studies of what to do and what not to do, exercises and activities, ‘to do’ lists and optional reflective questions.

The AVA EOC Program is available to AVA members as part of AVA's member benefits (includes steps 1 to 4 below) and forms part of an optional EOC Accreditation.

1. Register in the EOC Program; then
2. Conduct the (optional) surveys
3. Complete the online learning; and
4. Implement the strategies in the EOC Program

If your practice then wishes to undertake accreditation, Step 5 - Accreditation in the Employer of Choice Program provides access to all the resources needed before sumitting a formal Statement of Intent to Apply for EOC Accreditation.

Upon registration you will be sent a confirmation email. The email will provide instructions on how to access the AVA Employer of Choice Program, including the surveys, online learning and implementation recommendations.
