Western Australian Division Conference 2020 6 CPD Points

Overview

On behalf of the AVA WA Division I would like to invite you to join us for a special one-day conference on Saturday 14 November. We’re heading to our familiar Fremantle home for this special event. We have put together a great CPD program for the day that will pick up on hot topics including imaging, dentistry, ophthalmology and more. We’re also making space in the day for our local industry partners to join us. Trade tables will be available for the morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea breaks, and we’d also love you to join us for a drink at the end of the day. The team are mindful of sensitivities around COVID-19 and are putting in place a number of measures to ensure that we gather safely and responsibly. The AVA WA State Conference is back at The Esplanade Hotel by Rydges, Fremantle for a one day conference and trade show. The theme for this year's conference is Hot topics, with a selection of topics from imagining, to dentistry, and ophthalmology, and more.

Presenter(s)

Dr Isobel Monotti
Isobel is a lecturer in Small Animal Surgery. She completed a Bachelor of Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne in 2011 and is a Member of the surgery chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. She finished an ECVS residency program in small animal surgery and attained a master’s degree in Veterinary Studies from the University of Melbourne in January 2019. Isobel has an interest in all things orthopaedic, particularly joint disease, arthroscopy and rehabilitation, with her research interests focusing on total hip replacements in dogs.
Ms Belinda Hopper
Belinda is a veterinary radiologist who loves being part of the diagnostic process - getting to the root of clinical problems and bringing together clinicians and specialists to get the best possible outcome for her patients. She has a particular love for echocardiography and is keen to develop the cardiology and interventional radiology services in Perth.
Dr Kevin Ng
Kevin graduated from Murdoch University in 2006. After spending 8 years in small animal general practice in the Perth area, he developed an interest in dentistry and passed Membership examinations in Small Animal Dentistry & Oral Surgery in 2012, before successfully completing the Dentistry & Oral Surgery residency at Cornell University in 2019 and becoming one of only 4 specialist veterinary dentists currently practicing in Australia. In his spare time, Dr Kevin loves spending time with his family and his 10-year old Kelpie-cross dog, Floyd.
Dr Stephen Joslyn
Steve Joslyn is an internationally recognised specialist in Veterinary Radiology and CEO of VetDB. Originally from Canada, he is a 2005 Murdoch graduate and has since worked at academic, private and tele- referral centres around the world. Steve’s company VetDB focuses on patient medical data - solving the issues of inaccessible data using new technologies that lock it to the animal’s microchip. So far they have facilitated 15,000 animals and owners throughout WA and NSW. Aside from this Steve continues to teach radiology at Murdoch, and has a network of colleagues keeping him busy with radiology cases at night. These requests usually start with “Dis Cancer?”
Dr Zoe Lenard
Zoe is a dynamic radiologist with a passion for connection and excellence in both the radiology and veterinary community. She has extensive teaching experience at both the university and post-graduate level (at Murdoch University and for the Centre of Veterinary Education, Sydney University). She occupies a leadership role in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (President), which is the main certifying organisation for graduate vets in the region.
Dr Taemi Horikawa
Dr. Taemi Horikawa is a veterinary ophthalmology specialist currently practicing at Perth Animal Eye Hospital. Taemi has special interests in anterior segment imaging and glaucoma surgeries and is thrilled to be able to offer her experiences in ultrasound biomicroscopy, Ahmed gonioshunts and endoscopic cyclophotocoagulation to the WA veterinary community. Prior to being convinced by her now-husband to relocate to his native-land Perth, Taemi completed her veterinary education at UC Davis, followed by a small animal rotating internship and a 3-year comparative ophthalmology residency. After her board certification in 2015, she practiced in Northern California, where she also enjoyed opportunities to provide ophthalmic care to local rescue groups and teach interns. Taemi is excited to be in beautiful Perth and looks forward to meeting more members of the WA veterinary community.
Dr Guy Wolfenden
Originally from the UK and spending most of his early life growing up in Dubai, Guy completed his veterinary degree at Murdoch University here in Perth in 2014. Following this he completed a one-year rotating internship followed by twelve months in general practice. His love of medicine led him to commence a three-year residency program in internal medicine. His interests lie particularly in neurology, gastroenterology, haematology and anything involving a cat!
Dr Fleur James
Fleur is a specialist in small animal medicine who is passionate about providing the very best health care for dogs and cats, providing post-graduate and under-graduate teaching, as well as constantly developing new skills and evolving as a veterinary specialist. Her interests in small animal medicine are extensive, including cardiology, neurology, oncology and endoscopy, and she is particularly excited to participate in further development of interventional radiology services in Perth.
