Overview

A virtual bootcamp crafted for today’s next gen of veterinary professionals, the AVA Next Gen 2-day Bootcamp will feature answers to questions and topics you can take into your current and next job. Covering career, money, skills and what’s in the future, we have talks from young professionals and experienced vets who know what’s in store! Hear about the ins and outs of HR such as negotiating your contract, applying for jobs, financial skills including how indemnity insurance all works, how vet boards work and what they mean to you plus a lot more including a few clinical sessions to round up your skills. At only $95 for the full program, this is a great way to end the year on a high note as you prepare yourself for 2021 and beyond! If you are a student enrolled in veterinary science you already have a memberhip to the Australian Veterinary Student Group - Login with your AVA ID or the email that you registered to the AVA with at O-week and enjoy your student rate. Becoming a student member of the AVA with the Australian Veterinary Student Group (AVSG) is completely free, for your core student membership, encourage your friends to join. 2.00 - 3.30pm: Career Pathways
A deep-dive session to showcase the many career and educational options available in 2020. We have representatives from Greencross, The College, Government, industry, internships and residency programs, the Small Animal GP program and practice ownership. Plus, there will be a live Q&A session!

3.30pm - 4.30pm: Financial Skills
This session will discuss how Professional Indemnity Insurance works, paying tax once you start working, borrowing money and credit ratings.

4.40pm - 5.30pm: Maximising mental wellness
A discussion on monitoring yourself and dealing with the stresses of working as a veterinarian. What support resources are available.

5.30pm - 6.30pm: HR for new and recent grads
In this session, we’ll cover the ins and outs of applying for a job, presenting your CV, negotiating an employment contract, employment dispute resolution and outline the resources which are available to help and support new and recent graduates.

Magdoline Awad (Chief Veterinary Officer, Greencross), Nicole Laurence (VBG Veterinary Business of the Year) and Paula Parker (past president of the AVA) will each give us their insights into what the veterinary profession may look like 2030.

5.30pm - 6.30pm: Tricks of the trade
A number of experienced veterinarians from around Australia will give a short 5 minutes of positive tips for success as a vet.
