When do I take a tooth out?
In small animal dentistry, we come across mouths affected by a wide range of disease states. Teeth sometimes "look" bad, but are they really? Do we need to remove all teeth that aren't quite right? This talk will run through a number of scenarios where we have to make a choice about the future of a tooth - should it stay or should it go?
How do I take a tooth out?
Once we have made the decision to remove a tooth, how do we go about that? Some teeth are relatively "easy" to remove, whilst others are the cause of many a sleep interrupting nightmare! This talk will run through the basics of extractions and go through a step by step demonstration of the surgical approach to tooth removal in our small animal patients.

Dr Aaron Forsayeth
Dr Aaron Forsayeth started his veterinary career in mixed practice at the Roma Veterinary Clinic in 1997. He was exposed to a wide range of things, not least of which dental procedures. Having received minimal formal training in any dentistry whilst at university, these initial experiences with dentistry were daunting.
Moving on to the Mudgeeraba Animal Hospital in 1997, his work revolved mostly around small animals. Dentistry was a part of this practice, however over the ensuing years it became a much larger part, and Aaron’s interest grew with it.
In 2001 Aaron started exploring more training in small animal dentistry and after obtaining his membership in Veterinary Dentistry in 2004, dentistry became a much bigger focus of his career. He has exclusively worked in dental referral practice at Advanced Animal Dentistry since 2006.
