Grant will tell the tale of the development of a new field detection test for African swine fever virus, its deployment in the face of an outbreak of the pig disease in Timor Leste in 2019/20, and the continuing work by Australian and Timorese vets to fight the disease, help farmers recover from the losses caused by ASF, and develop the veterinary service of the young country to our North.

Dr Grant Rawlin
Grant’s career in veterinary science has included the disciplines of virology, epidemiology and pathology and he has worked in mixed practice, with CSIRO as an experimental scientist, with State and Commonwealth veterinary services and in the Biotech industry. He now leads the veterinary diagnostic team for Agriculture Victoria and enjoys chasing old and new diseases in all species of livestock and wildlife.
