Learning outcome

The four predominating methods for canine breeding include natural mating, vaginal artificial insemination (VAI), transcervical artificial insemination (TCI) and surgical artificial insemination (SAI). Recent developments in welfare considerations have sparked many conversations regarding the pros/cons and validation of each technique. This presentation will examine the methodology and application of each technique to ensure veterinarians providing breeding services are able provide ethical and effective breeding recommendations. We will also summarise published success rates for each method and how to best time each breeding to ensure the highest chance of pregnancy.
