This will include some challenges, the things she found helpful, and the opportunities that exist within the industry. She will also delve into skills and opportunities that recent graduates may be able to utilise to help them get a foot in the door with sheep clients, and what steps they might be able to take in order to help gain knowledge and confidence in the area.

Presenter(s)

Dr Jane Gaussen
Jane grew up on a fine wool merino property in Victoria's western district, before attending Charles Sturt University, where she graduated in 2019. Since graduation, she has worked in mixed practice and in a private livestock consultancy firm, before starting her own business, The Livestock Vet in 2023. Currently, The Livestock Vet services primarily sheep and beef cattle of western district Victoria and south east South Australia. Jane now lives on a sheep and cattle property on the Victorian/South Australian border with her partner, and is involved with their operations, as well as still being heavily involved with the family property. She spends her free time with their 9 working dogs, her excessive collection of poultry, and out and about within the broader community.
Dr Frances Collett
Frankie graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2017 and has worked in mixed practice - Mount Gambier, Kyabram and now Rochester. She moved to Rochester to work on the sheep side of the business and has enjoyed this role. The clinic has gone from only offering a small amount of sheep work to sheep scanning, flock health programs, reproduction programs and much more! Frankie obtained her membership in sheep medicine in 2023 and has been part of the T90 program offering modules to farmers in her area. She has gone through the devastating floods in 2022 and has been living in a caravan since awaiting her house renovations with her very supportive husband. In her spare time she loves walking her Jack Russell, gardening, swimming and cooking up a storm.
