Developing skills and confidence in cattle medicine for vets in mixed practice 2019 81 CPD Points

Overview

Hands-on five day workshop in a busy dairy cattle practice. Tarwin Veterinary Group has identified that there are recent graduates in smaller mixed practices where a cattle component is present but not big enough for them to progress their skills and confidence sufficiently to be able to provide a good, professional service. A team of cattle vets, each with more than 30 yrs experience, would like to take one candidate at a time under their wing and develop their skills and confidence over a five day period (45-50hrs). This will take place on farms with a huge variety of actual cases.

Learning outcome

Major topics will be:

  • Communication skills
  • Welfare and OHS in handling cattle
  • Diagnostic techniques in doing a full clinical examination
  • Abdominal surgery
  • Lameness and skills workshop
  • Dystocia workshop
  • Advice on equipment, drugs to carry on board, vehicle set-up and professional image
  • Pregnancy testing and calf management (Autumn course)
