AVA Employer of Choice (EOC) is an initiative that the AVA have undertaken with AVA’s HR Advisory Service and has been developed from the results of the last workforce survey.
Staff attraction and retention is critically important to the success of any veterinary practice. Only those practices who can develop effective staff retention strategies will stand any chance of keeping good employees.
Therefore, the purpose of AVA’s EOC is to develop leading veterinary workplaces that maximise the full potential of their workforce through practices that demonstrate effective employee recruitment, engagement and retention. It is designed for Practice Managers, Owners, or those who work in a management or a HR related capacity in practice.
The EOC Program is available to AVA members as part of AVA’s member benefits and registration can be achieved via this page or the Education and Events Calendar.
The EOC Program consists of 2 optional surveys (manager survey and employee survey), a flexible and interactive online learning module, plus many resources and templates. The online learning module features 30 best-practice employee retention strategies developed by the team at the AVA HR Advisory Service who have 20 years of experience working with the veterinary profession. The strategies include case studies of what to do and what not to do, exercises and activities, ‘to do’ lists and optional reflective questions.
The EOC Program (stage 1) forms part of an optional EOC Accreditation (stage 2). The accreditation phase will be available in the second half of 2021.
In the meantime, practices are encouraged to commence the EOC Program by:
- Registering in the EOC Program
- Conducting the surveys
- Completing the online learning; and
- Implementing the strategies in the EOC Program
