Summary

JohneΓÇÖs disease is a slowly progressive enteropathy of predominantly ruminants due to infection by Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map.). Map. is an obligate intracellular pathogen. The disease occurs in most livestock producing countries and the prevalence is rising globally (Collins, 2003).
