Expressions of Interest: Australian Veterinary Journal Academic Editors

20 Dec 2024

The AVA is looking for members interested in becoming academic editors (AEs) and joining the editorial board of the Australian Veterinary Journal (AVJ).

The AVJ is Australia's leading scientific publication in the field and provides an essential forum for the dissemination of leading veterinary research. Such professionally relevant research published in the AVJ can make a real impact in the intended industry areas.

We are seeking academics and clinicians with experience and expertise in publishing and a passion for driving Australian research. The AVJ is an essential forum for researchers to publish and promote high-quality, refereed scientific and clinical articles of importance to Australasian veterinary science or Australasian Veterinarians.

The role of the editorial board:

AEs work with the Editor in Chief (EIC) in the peer review process and are responsible for the scientific quality of the manuscripts that they handle, as well as ensuring that manuscripts are handled efficiently and appropriately, adhering to the journal publishing policies and guidelines.

AE will be allocated manuscripts within their field of expertise and make recommendations to the EIC as to their suitability for the AVJ with reference to its scientific quality, novelty, ethical standards and professional applicability. This starts on initial receipt and screening of a manuscript. If a manuscript is appropriate for progression, the academic editors will invite suitable reviewers and make their recommendations to the EIC following review of the reviewer comments. AEs will typically handle 1-2 manuscripts at any one time, and up to 10-15 manuscripts per year.

As members of the Editorial Board, AEs will be consulted on the direction of the journal and provide feedback to the AVA and EIC. AEs will be ambassadors of the journal and promote submissions in their area of expertise, highlighting the ethos, scope and aims of the AVJ.
