On Monday 9 October 2023, James Cook University Veterinary Student Association (JCUVSA) and the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) hosted a networking evening in Townsville at the Mansfield Hotel. The successful event had 50 people in attendance, with a good mix of practitioners and vet students, ranging from 2nd to 5th year.

JCU Australian Veterinary Student Group (AVSG) representative Emma Fallon was our host for the night, introducing AVA QLD Division President Dr Benjamin Brightman who spoke about the benefits of being an AVA member. Dr Bruce Pott, a longstanding member of the Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) Group shared with us the benefits of AVA Special Interest Group (SIG) membership.

Each of the practitioners kindly introduced themselves and we would like to thank them for being so generous with their time:
- Valley Vet Surgery
- Central Vet Mareeba
- Townsville Vet Clinic
- Tropical Vets
- Tableland vet services
- Charters Towers Vet
- JCU Vet
- EVA representative

Feedback from students and practitioners was that it was a successful social networking evening. We would like to thank all the clinics for attending and we hope to see them again at the next event.
