NT Veterinary Board meeting
05 Mar 2024There are challenges and barriers experienced by veterinary teams in the NT, especially in remote areas, to provide veterinary services to animals that meet animal welfare needs and obligations while adhering to regulations and requirements of legislation, such as those of NT Medicines, Poisons and Therapeutic Goods legislation, Veterinary Act and Veterinary Board.
In collaboration with the NTVB, the AVA are exploring opportunities to advocate for change to the MPTG Act, and other regulations, if areas are identified where benefits could flow to the veterinary profession, clients, and animals.
The AVA envisions a range of benefits from proposed changes, encompassing not just elevated animal welfare outcomes, but also bolstered mental health, increased retention rates, and improved overall workforce outcomes for veterinary teams.
AVA NT Division President Dr Amy Harding, Division committee member Dr Marie Quin, and Senior Advocacy Officer Dr Robyn Whitaker held a highly productive meeting with the Chair of the NTVB, the NT CVO, the NT Poison’s Officer, and the NT Veterinary Registrar to discuss this and look forward to continuing constructive work together on this project.
