Meeting with QLD Small Business Commissioner (SBCQ)

In follow up to an initial discussion held last year with the SBCQ, a meeting was held with SBCQ Commissioner, Dominique Lamb.

Members of the QLD AVA Division Executive Committee, and AVA Staff, discussed the challenges faced by veterinary practices, especially those run as small businesses.

Key issues included the management of stray animals, after-hours services, funding for disaster-impacted animal care, and mental health impacts on the veterinary profession.

Support of the Commissioner for the AVA’s advocacy work was sought to help address some of the issues that impact on the financial viability and overall sustainability of veterinary practices.

Discussions are ongoing around how this support can be provided.
