Pandemic Puppies and Adolescence: Considerations and Challenges for Veterinarians
Presented by Sally Nixon BVSc MANZCVS (Veterinary Behaviour)
In 2020 and 2021, we were faced with significant changes to our previous living conditions and puppy adoption rates also increased. Now, in 2022, home environments and routines have changed as people return to face-to-face work and to their social commitments. The puppies of 2020/2021 have reached a new phase in their development while also facing a new world of changing expectations and challenges.
In this talk, Dr Sally Nixon will describe the adolescent developmental period of the dog, as well as how the unique situation experienced by puppies in Melbourne during 2020 and 2021 could affect their vulnerability to developing behaviour problems in 2022. There will also be a discussion on the development of behaviour problems, what to consider with dogs exhibiting challenging behaviour in the veterinary clinic, and what advice you can give owners of pets who have lived through the lockdowns and now present with behaviour problems.
On the night, there will be time for Q&A. Sally has a passion for helping general practice veterinarians feel comfortable managing the behaviour cases.
