Dr Sam Allan has been appointed as Animal Health Australia's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (AHA). Dr Allan has been acting as AHA CEO for 10 months and was previously the AHA General Manager of Emergency Preparedness, Animal Health and Biosecurity.
The AVA congratulates Dr Allan on her appointment, which the AHA states marks a new era for the organisation.
The AVA is an associate member of AHA, collaborating on programs and projects to protect and improve Australia's animal health and biosecurity system.
Graham Pratt, National Manager — Advocacy, AVA, said, "AVA works with AHA at all levels, including in emergency animal disease management and biosecurity. We congratulate Sam on her appointment and look forward to continuing to work closely with AHA."
"The biosecurity space has never faced more challenges, with the current avian influenza outbreak an example of the increased biosecurity threats we face. However, it also shows the power of collaboration – with our industry and government members working together to manage the outbreak effectively and promptly," Dr Allan said.
"With the highly skilled team at AHA and the depth of knowledge and insights from our members, I'm looking forward to leading AHA into this new period, building on our mission to deliver solutions that enhance, strengthen and protect animal health and the biosecurity system,” said Dr Allan.
Dr Allan graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science, first class honours in 1993.
