Have your say on the draft threat abatement plan for competition and land degradation by unmanaged goats

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water are seeking feedback on a draft threat abatement plan for competition and land degradation by unmanaged goats.

The plan sets out actions to reduce the impacts of unmanaged goats on the environment, agriculture and communities.

Unmanaged goats are found in every state and territory. They compete with native fauna and can cause damage to soil and vegetation.

The draft plan was developed in consultation with a range of experts and builds upon the current threat abatement plan.

At the end of the comment period, the department will use the feedback to inform the final plan, which the Minister for the Environment will consider in early 2024.

How you can be involved 

  • The AVA is reviewing the documentation to determine if a submission is appropriate. If you would like to provide your feedback to inform this process it is welcomed. 
    • Individual members, please send your feedback to Ms Ursula Gleeson, Executive Officer, for consideration for inclusion in a formal AVA submission by 22 January 2024.   
    • Committees, please provide your feedback through your executive officer or senior advocacy officer and they will pass it on to the working group. 
  • Make your own submission directly via a survey  by 7 February 2024.
