Government relations roundup

15 Mar 2024

February has been a very busy month for AVA’s government relations national managers Dr’s Sam McMahon and Bronwyn Orr. Both houses of Federal Parliament sat during the last week of February and coincided with the annual Parliamentary Friends of Red Meat function. The week provided an excellent opportunity to meet with a range of Parliamentarians from both the Government, Opposition and cross benchers. Formal meetings were held with over 12 MP’s and Senators. Bronwyn and Sam’s key advocacy messages were those within the AVA’s prebudget submission.

Meetings were also held with various industry stakeholders, including production animal groups, farmer organisations and educators. The importance of collaboration and working together to achieve good animal health and welfare outcomes whilst ensuring no unintended consequences to the veterinary profession or industry was discussed.
