NSW Inquiries into Animal Welfare and Puppy Farming

02 Feb 2022

The NSW State Parliament is investigating animal welfare legislation and companion animal breeding regulation in two current inquiries.

The Animal Welfare inquiry is aimed at looking at the State's animal welfare policy, regulatory and legislative framework. It is also specifically looking at the draft Animal Welfare Bill 2021, which can be found here (https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/animals-and-livestock/animal-welfare/animal-welfare-reform).

The Puppy Farm inquiry is looking at the Companion Animals Amendment (Puppy Farms) Bill 2021 (https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/bill/files/3885/First%20Print.pdf) and the regulations around the breeding of dogs and cats.

Details on the inquiries can be found on the NSW Parliament website:

The AVA is currently preparing submissions for each of these. If you would like to provide input into the AVA submissions, please contact graham.pratt@ava.com.au. Members are also encouraged to make their own submissions directly to the State Parliament.
