Ever wanted to take a sneak peak at another veterinary practice to see how they’re operating? Perhaps ‘borrow’ a few ideas to enhance your own business processes?

Well, there’s no need to sneak around - the Veterinary Business Group has been supporting this invaluable knowledge transfer for many years with their Practice Insights Tours.

Join the next tour on Friday 16 August as the group takes participants on a hop-on hop-off bus journey across three veterinary practices: SuncoastVet Buderim, Nicklin Way Veterinary Surgery, and Aura Veterinary Hospital, all located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It’s a unique opportunity for attendees to gain practical knowledge and innovative strategies from experienced professionals.

A day of learning and networking

The Practice Insights Tour will provide a comprehensive view of modern veterinary practices, showcasing a range of practical tips and strategies. From creative storage solutions and efficient rostering techniques to software hacks, nurse consult strategies, and client loyalty programs, attendees will leave with a wealth of actionable insights to implement in their practices.

Each clinic visited undergoes a financial analysis conducted by Paolo Lencioni, founder of Profit Diagnostix, proud sponsor of the Tour. This analysis allows attendees to benchmark KPIs and develop a deeper understanding of the financial landscape of both the host clinics and their own practices.

The tour also offers ample opportunities for interactive discussions and networking during bus rides and lunch. Leaders and aspiring leaders alike can connect, share stories, and exchange ideas, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Dr Jeremy Watson, owner of Brimbank Veterinary Clinic and a seasoned participant in practice insight tours, shared his perspective on the value of these experiences. "Working in private practice, it is difficult to have access to a guided tour of someone else’s practice," Jeremy explained. "I would recommend you jump at any opportunity to visit other practices, especially successful practices, as you always learn something new to apply in your own practice."

Brimbank Vet was a practice insights destination practice during the recent AVA Conference, with Jeremy taking the opportunity to emphasise the importance of sustainability and a net zero strategy as part of normal business operations. "Climate change is the biggest threat to the future of animal health," he noted. "Most vet practitioners recognise the need to be more sustainable but are unsure where to start, and that is why Vets for Climate Action have developed the Climate Care Program, a world first sustainability and Net Zero program for vet clinics.

“At Brimbank Vet, participants were able to see the practical results of implementing the Climate Care Program to reduce carbon emissions and improve the practice fundamentals of profit, team purpose, and client value. Getting to Net Zero is a whole of community problem and we all need to make a contribution as fast as we can,” Jeremy added.

Participants on the tour will receive a practice analysis booklet, along with morning tea and lunch. Visit the ASAV and VBG Conference website for further details, including booking link.

As the veterinary community continues to evolve, the Practice Insights Tour serves as a vital platform for sharing knowledge and best practices. Whether you're a practice owner or an aspiring leader, the insights gained from these tours can significantly impact your practice's growth and success.
