Media Wrap - February 2018

The AVA appeared in the media following the distribution of the four media releases during January and earlier this month:

  • A study conducted by the University of Sydney has confirmed that vaccination against the deadly Hendra virus does not affect the performance of racing horses. This was covered online, in local newspapers and on radio including ABC.
  • With parts of Australia set to experience heatwaves, the AVA provided practical tips on how to help both pets and livestock beat the heat. These media releases received coverage online including SBS and, local print publications and radio including 2SM.
  • In line with the AVA’s policy on ‘companion animals confined to vehicles’, we warned animal owners about the dangers of leaving their pets in vehicles. This was covered in local newspapers.
  • The AVA welcomed the announcement of three veterinarians appointed to the Technical Advisory Committee reviewing the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock (ASEL). This was covered online including on the Beef Central and The Land websites as well as on radio including ABC and in rural publications.
