
Course summary
This course provides advanced training in critically reviewing the role of veterinarians in the wider society, including their obligations within the legal and regulatory environment and their role in One Health. Animal and public health protection skills covered include an awareness and understanding of biosecurity, epidemiology, and risk management.
Learning outcomes
- Assess and make recommendations to minimise the risk of zoonoses in veterinary practice.
- Apply responsible antimicrobial use principles in general veterinary practice.
- Apply an understanding of biosecurity to management of a potential notifiable or emergency animal disease.
- Understand the key social welfare issues associated with animal ownership and apply these to case management.
- Recommend steps to reduce the environmental impact of veterinary practice.
