Meet your Student Committee Members

I’m Pratham and I am thrilled into stepping into the role of a student rep. I’m on a quest to specialise in wildlife and exotic animal veterinary medicine.
From cuddly cute kangaroos to creatures that might make you second-guess your life choices, my passion lies in understanding and caring for the most extraordinary members of animal kingdom. I am greatly fascinated in learning how vets tackle the unique challenges of diagnosing and treating animals in their natural habitats.
My passion for wildlife medicine has me on a nonstop adventure, whether I’m chasing down elusive parrots or negotiating peace treaties between territorial tortoises. I’m excited for the journey ahead and the opportunity to contribute to our noble profession. Thanks for taking the time to read about my aspirations, I can’t wait to see where this path leads.
Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!

I’m incredibly grateful to be the AVSG student representative for CSU this year and I look forward to working alongside my peers to support the next generation of veterinarians.
My background across both coastal and inland agricultural systems has shaped my appreciation for the close connections between animal, environmental and human health. I’m particularly passionate about communication and education as tools to improve animal welfare and strengthen relationships between veterinarians, producers and communities. I have a strong interest in mixed practice, particularly in bovine, aquaculture and wildlife medicine.
Outside of university, I enjoy surfing, AFL, swimming, making far too much coffee, reading and side questing with my mates. I am honoured to have the opportunity to work alongside peers, faculty and industry professionals to foster a positive and enriching experience for veterinary students at CSU and with the AVSG

As a rising DVM 3 student, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve my peers at the University of Sydney as a committee representative.
My interests in veterinary medicine involve all species, with a focus on the human animal bond and a One Health framework. My motivation stems from my experience riding horses growing up, and the bond between horse and rider.

Hi! My name is Emily and I am your AVA recent graduate representative.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The University of Sydney at the end of last year (2025) and am currently working as a new grad vet at a clinic in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
At this stage I am interested in all aspects of veterinary medicine (a good problem to have!) and am enjoying the variety of general practice, but I am really enjoying surgery, oncology and neurology. As the recent grad rep I am looking forward to connecting with other AVA members and helping the AVA better support final year students and new graduate vets as they transition into practice.

Hi! I’m Gaby, DVM 1 student at the University of Adelaide!
I have a strong passion for exotics but am keeping my options open for the future. Throughout my degree I have been apart of multiple clubs, including the Wildlife SIG, Equine SIG, and being an event coordinator and president of the Adelaide Veterinary Students Association.
When I’m not at university or studying, you can find me at one of my jobs, reading, or making beaded flowers! With the AVA, I’m excited to spread more awareness to students about what the AVA can offer from the start to the end of the degree.

Nicole Flood is a first-year Veterinary Medicine student at Southern Cross University who recently relocated to Lismore to begin her studies. Transitioning into the degree has been both challenging and rewarding, with a strong focus on developing foundational knowledge in animal health, welfare, and clinical skills.
Nicole has particularly enjoyed the hands-on and practical components of the course, as well as the opportunity to learn alongside like-minded peers who share a passion for animal care. Adjusting to the balance of study, work, and new surroundings has been a significant part of her experience so far, reinforcing the importance of resilience, time management, and adaptability.
With a background in veterinary nursing and wildlife care, Nicole is enjoying building on her existing knowledge while gaining a deeper understanding of the science behind veterinary practice. She is especially interested in mixed practice and wildlife medicine and is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to animal welfare in regional communities.
As the AVA Student Representative for Southern Cross University, Nicole is looking forward to connecting with fellow students and supporting a positive and engaging student community.

Hello! I’m Rhea and I’m really excited to be on the committee this year! I didn’t always want to be a vet; it was only in my last year of high school when I decided I wanted to go down this path.
I am passionate about animal rights and welfare, wildlife conservation, and One Health. I really love how veterinary medicine is so diverse and the beautiful community within the profession. Advocacy, community work, and collaboration have been a part of my life for a while now, so I am really excited to be a part of this inter-vet school initiative and connect more UQ students with the AVA.
I’m hoping this coming term, we can advocate for structural student mental health support and allow more students to make their voices heard.

My name is Sarah Chang, and I’m a first-year veterinary medicine student at Murdoch University. I’m honoured to serve on the AVA student committee & look forward to contributing to the veterinary student community.
In this role, I aim to strengthen the connection between students, lecturers, and tutors, ensuring that every voice is heard & represented. Supporting my peers, advocating for their needs, & helping create an inclusive & engaging learning environment are responsibilities I value deeply.
I’m eager to highlight the opportunities, benefits, & support the AVA offers, & encourage my peers to also develop a strong relationship with the AVA & wider veterinary community.
Finally, I’m genuinely excited to collaborate with the committee, build meaningful relationships across the profession, and play a role in enhancing the student experience at Murdoch and beyond!

Everything you need to know about AVA student membership. Still unsure about something?
Student membership is available at no cost to anyone who is enrolled in a Veterinary Science degree program at an Australian university, or in the Australian Veterinary Examination (AVE). We may ask you to verify your enrolment or AVE candidacy at any time, including when you join. If you are unable to verify your eligibility when asked, we may convert your membership to another tier or end it.
When you graduate with a registrable degree in veterinary science, or pass the AVE, you become a veterinarian member upon payment of the applicable subscription. No new application is needed; your membership simply continues. We will contact you before then to support your transition, including any early career discounts that apply to you.
Student members hold all privileges and liabilities of membership except voting and holding office. Student members do not have access to veterinarian-only tools and programs.
Yes, and there is no catch. Student membership is included at no cost because the next generation of veterinary professionals shapes the future of the profession, and we want you part of it from day one. There are no joining fees, no SIG fees and no hidden costs.
All of them, if you like, at no cost. SIGs are where the profession’s communities live, from small animal and equine practice to conservation biology and beyond. Join the ones that match your interests and follow their webinars, resources and discussions. Contact us to add SIG to your membership at no charge.
AVA student members have access to free professional indemnity and public liability insurance through Guild Insurance. It covers unpaid activities you undertake as a student veterinarian that relate directly to your approved course of study, which matters most during your rotation and placement year. AVE candidates receive a certificate of cover to support clinical placement applications. Apply here: it takes about five minutes. Cover is subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions.
Your student membership runs until you graduate, and then your membership grows with you rather than ending. New graduates receive 70% off All Access membership for the first three years in practice (only $266) and 45% off in years four and five ($488), so everything you have built here, your SIGs, your community and your support, continues without interruption. We will be in touch before you graduate to make the transition seamless.
