
Course summary
This course provides advanced training in the foundational clinical skills required for high quality small animal veterinary general practice. The focus will be on practical and applied aspects of anaesthesia and emergency care. This includes core principles of anaesthesia and emergency care as well as more advanced skills in fluid therapy, emergency patient assessment, triage and pain management. Case-based diagnostic and treatment plans in the emergency room will be emphasised.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the common drug classes used in small animal anaesthesia and appropriate anaesthetic monitoring techniques for general practice.
- Explain the fundamentals and importance of the triage and stabilisation of emergency small animal cases presented to a general practice.
- Integrate and apply the core principles of the rule of 20 to your critical inpatient management plans.
