Veterinary boards, health departments and requirements

Practising as a veterinarian in Australia requires registration with the relevant board in your state or territory. Each jurisdiction maintains its own registration body, and you must be registered where you intend to work. Your veterinary degree will also need to meet the criteria set by your state board.

Veterinary boards and state health departments

Radiation licence

To use x-ray equipment, you will need a licence from your state regulation body. Licences are issued by either your state department of health or department for the environment.

Microchipping

In New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, you are required to have your own authorised microchip implanter number.

Insurance

Graduates who are AVA Members need to apply for their own indemnity insurance. Graduates who are AVA members will receive a discounted rate with GUILD Insurance.
