Built on member feedback and designed to keep improving, what you are experiencing today is just the beginning. Over the next 12–24 months you will see new features, a more personalised experience and continued improvements to how you access your benefits, communities and resources.
As we work through the early stages some features may still be finding their feet – your SIGs will need to be selected when you renew, your CPD history is being loaded, and some exciting new features are still being activated.

1. AVA's new membership options
Your questions answered about AVA’s individual membership
Being a member of the Australian Veterinary Association means you’re one of the thousands of fellow veterinary professionals represented by Australia’s leading veterinary professional association.
AVA membership is open to any veterinary professional — registered veterinarians working across clinical practice, specialist care, government, research, industry, academia and beyond; allied professionals including veterinary nurses, technologists, practice managers, researchers and veterinary students enrolled in an accredited Australian degree. If you work in this profession, there is a place for you here.
The simplest way to think about it is: what do you need, and what do you attend?
All Access is right for you if you’re in active practice, attend AVA events or conferences, or rely on clinical tools in your day-to-day work. The Event Advantage discount saves $400 or more per event, so attending even one conference typically covers the price difference between All Access and Flexi.
Early career vets get significant discounts on All Access to make sure cost is never a barrier in the years when professional support matters most. If you graduated in the last three years you pay 70% off the standard rate, and in years four and five you pay 45% off. The full All Access benefits are included at every discount level.
Flexi suits members working part-time, on parental leave, or in government, academic or industry roles. You get the key practical tools including webinars, CPD, HR advice and Career Connect, without paying for benefits you might not need right now.
Connected is the right fit if you’re on a career break, retiring or working overseas. You stay in the SIG community, keep your advocacy voice and maintain your professional identity at minimal cost.
Student membership is free for the full duration of your veterinary degree. You know your circumstances best, so have a look at the full benefits and choose what fits. If you’re not sure, contact us and we’ll help you work it out.
Yes. Every member — across all tiers — can join any of AVA’s 19+ Special Interest Groups at no extra cost. Every member in every SIG gets access to the online community, member directory, news and reference resources.
What you can access within a SIG grows with your tier:
- Flexi and All Access members also get webinar recordings and SIG journals in digital format
- All Access members unlock the full suite: conference proceedings, accreditation, apps and digital tools, print journals , significant event discounts and more
- If you’re on Connected and regularly want webinars or SIG journals, that’s a good sign Flexi is worth a look. If you’re on Flexi and want conference proceedings or accreditations like BULLCHECK, All Access opens that up.
Please note that some SIG tools, programs and accreditations such as BullCheck and Preg Check are available to veterinarian members only, regardless of tier.

2. Transitioning to the new membership options
Transitioning thousands of members to the new options is no small thing.
To help with the transition we have mapped every existing member to their closest new tier. Want to change? No problem. Just give Member Services a call or send us an email and we will update it on the spot.
As our new platform continues to develop, you will be able to select this yourself.
Your new tier has been matched to your previous membership grade — so the benefits and price point are as close as possible to what you had before. Most full members have been mapped to All Access. Members on concession, partner, overseas or retired rates have been mapped to Flexi or Connected.
If it does not feel right for where you are now, that is an easy fix. Before you renew, contact Member Services and we will sort it for you.
Good news — your new All Access membership is $888, down from the previous $934 full member rate. You get everything AVA offers, including all 19+ Special Interest Groups at no additional cost. If you would like to talk through your options, give us a call and we will work through it with you.
We have matched your concession membership to the Flexi tier, which gives you professional connection, key resources and access to all 19+ Special Interest Groups. If your circumstances have changed or something does not feel right, give us a call or send us an email and we can update this for you before you renew.
Members holding Fellow, Honorary or Life Complementary status receive All Access membership at no charge. Nothing changes for you — there is nothing you need to do. Your status and full access continue as before.
Under the new membership model, Life (retired) members are recommended to transition to the Connected tier at $266 per year — a saving of $43 or more on your current rate. Plus, you now get access to any of AVA’s SIG communities, so you can stay close to the corners of the profession you care most about.
Your decades of contribution to veterinary practice deserve recognition. As a thank you for your long-standing commitment to the profession, you’ll also receive an exclusive discount code to unlock the Event Advantage rate at AVA conferences and events (saving $400+).
We have matched Associate and Industry Associate members to the Flexi tier, giving you professional connection, access to key resources and all 19+ Special Interest Groups. The partner rate category does not carry across to the new model as a separate product, so we have matched you to the Flexi tier. Flexi gives you professional connection, key resources and access to all Special Interest Groups. We have mapped new graduates to All Access at a discounted rate because we know that early career support matters. Pricing is based on years since graduation:
- Years 1–3: $266
- Years 4–5: $488

3. Renewing
Renewing this year looks a little different, but we have tried to make it as straightforward as possible in the midst of the website change. If anything trips you up along the way, our Member Services team are just a call or email away members@ava.com.au
Renewing is simple. You can renew directly through the your new personalised AVA member dashboard using your existing email address and password. Keep an eye on your inbox too — we will send you a one-click renewal email so you can get it done in seconds.
Your renewal will reflect the tier you have been mapped to. If you would like to change your tier first, just give us a call before you renew and we will sort it on the spot.
We are in the early stages of a significant platform transition and we appreciate your patience if something is not working as expected. Please contact Member Services by phone or email and our team will process your renewal for you and get back to you as soon as possible.
31 July is the last day to renew and keep your membership benefits active without interruption. If you have not renewed by then, your access to member benefits — including your SIGs, Member Hub, CPD tracking and resources — will be disconnected.
The good news is you can still rejoin after 31 July and get everything reconnected. But to avoid any gap in your benefits, we recommend renewing before the deadline.
4. Managing your membership
Say hello to your new member dashboard. It is your home for everything AVA – your SIGs, your CPD, your communities and your membership. We are just getting started with what it can do.
Over the next 12–24 months you will see new features, a more personalised experience and continued improvements to how you access your benefits, communities and resources.
During the renewal period you can move to any tier that suits you — simply give us a call on 1300 137 309 or send us an email and we will take care of it . The ability to manage membership tier changes online through the member portal is coming in a future release.
Upgrades are available at any time during the membership year — you just pay the full difference, with no pro-rata adjustment.
Downgrades are only available during the renewal period and cannot be made mid-year.
Yes, you can upgrade your tier at any time during the membership year. All Access is the tier that unlocks event advantage discounts, saving $hundreds , so if that matters to you it is worth making the move sooner rather than waiting until an event is on the horizon.
When you upgrade, the full price difference applies. There is no pro-rata adjustment based on where you are in the membership year.
