On-Demand UPAV Webinar | Emergency triage of the sick rabbit – what really works and is useful? | Dr Gerry Skinner
20 August, 2025 @ 8:00 pm - 21 August, 2026 @ 9:00 pm AEST
Free - $50.00
Almost every unwell rabbit presents with similar symptoms – but as all rabbit vets know, gut stasis is not a disease! The sick rabbit could have one (or more) of hundreds of problems – some easily resolved, some not survivable, and some requiring urgent life saving medical or surgical intervention.
Sick rabbits could be infectious – potentially threatening other patients in the hospital. How can we quickly, safely and effectively work out what is going on and make sensible and appropriate plans for our patients?
This webinar will discuss the Rabbit Doctors comprehensive, but easy to use triage process. What quick in house blood tests are useful? What clinical signs can help you identify the unwell rabbit from the “about to crash” patient? When should euthanasia be discussed?

- Biography
Dr Gerry Skinner BSc BVSC PhD MRCVS MANZCVS (ECC) has worked in the field of rabbit emergency medicine, medicine and surgery in rabbits for almost 25 years. After a background in mixed practice, rabbit primary and second opinion care in the UK, she moved to Australia in 2007. Having been told before she emigrated that “no one in Australia has or even likes rabbits!” she moved away from her exotics training pathway to her other clinical interest of emergency and critical care.
She worked and ran a large emergency referral central in Melbourne for several years, and gaining her memberships in ECC. As more and more of her presenting patients were rabbits, she realised there was great scope to improve the medical and emergency care of the species in general, and so set up The Rabbit Drs 12 years ago. Their clinic in Coburg North, Melbourne has a staff of 35, including 8 vets and currently sees about 10,000 rabbits a year.
