Veterinary Services Regulatory Board of South Australia (VSRBSA)

Under the Veterinary Services Act 2023 (SA), the Veterinary Surgeons Board of South Australia (VSBSA) will transition to the Veterinary Services Regulatory Board of South Australia (VSRBSA), effective 1 July 2026.

Key details of changes that should be noted by practitioners include:

New Entity Details

The Veterinary Services Regulatory Board of South Australia (VSRBSA) will replace VSBSA as the statutory authority responsible for regulating veterinary services in South Australia under the new Act.

Regulatory Framework Changes

The Veterinary Services Act 2023 introduces a modernised regulatory framework, including:

  • An expanded scope covering veterinary premises, not only veterinary surgeons
  • Updated governance, compliance, and enforcement powers
  • Continued oversight of professional standards, registration, and conduct

Continuity of Operations

  • Existing registrations, approvals, and authorisations issued under the current Act will transition to the new framework
  • Current processes and requirements will continue unless otherwise advised
  • Further guidance on any changes to obligations or processes will be provided as implementation progresses

Communications and Records

From 1 July 2026:

  • All official communications will be issued in the name of the Veterinary Services Regulatory Board of South Australia
  • Stakeholders are encouraged to update their records to reflect the new Board name
  • Existing contact channels will be updated to reflect VSRBSA, however current channels will remain in place in the interim and we will notify further as changes transition.
  • The website will transition to www.vsrb.sa.gov.au Please update your bookmarks and records accordingly.
  • The postal address and phone numbers will remain the same.
