Expressions of Interest – AVA Historical Items Working Group

Help preserve the AVA's history

The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) is seeking Expressions of Interest from members to join the Historical Items Working Group.

The AVA holds a significant collection of historical documents, publications, photographs, artefacts and organisational records that reflect the history of both the AVA and the veterinary profession. The Working Group has been established by the AVA Board to review these materials and provide recommendations for their long-term preservation, management and accessibility.

Who should apply?

We’re looking for AVA members with an interest in preserving the profession’s history. Experience in areas such as veterinary history, archives, museums, heritage collections, records management, governance, project management or conservation would be valuable, but members with a genuine interest in contributing are also encouraged to apply.

As many historical items are located at the AVA office in St Leonards, NSW, several Working Group members will need to be Sydney-based and available to attend occasional in-person meetings or collection reviews.

Time commitment

The Working Group will operate for approximately 12 months, meeting as required, with some meetings held via videoconference.

How to apply

Please submit:

  • a brief statement (maximum one page) outlining your interest in joining the Working Group
  • a summary of your relevant skills, knowledge or experience
  • confirmation of whether you are Sydney-based.

Applications close: 20 August 2026
