The Australian Veterinary Association provided a submission to the South Australian Government in response to proposed reforms to dog and cat breeding regulations and standards.
In its submission, the AVA emphasised the importance of evidence-based animal welfare standards, responsible breeding practices, and the role of veterinarians in supporting the health and welfare of breeding animals and their offspring. The AVA also highlighted relevant AVA policies relating to brachycephalic dog breeding and surgical sterilisation, and supported regulatory approaches that promote transparency, traceability, and improved welfare outcomes for dogs and cats.
The AVA welcomes continued engagement with government and stakeholders to ensure breeding regulations support both animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
