Have your say on the review of the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is inviting feedback on the 8th edition of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. A short survey is now open, giving veterinary professionals and others who use the Code in their daily work the opportunity to highlight key issues, identify gaps, and help shape the next edition.

The AVA will be providing input to this survey in line with relevant AVA policies (policy links provided below). We encourage individuals with direct experience applying the Code to share their own insights. Your frontline perspective is invaluable in ensuring the Code remains practical, contemporary, and fit for purpose, achieving ethical and humane outcomes for animals used for scientific purposes.

For more information and to participate, visit the NHMRC website and NHMRC Consultation Hub.

The survey is open until 16 February 2026.
