EOI for the NSW Game and Pest Management Advisory Board

The AVA is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) to provide a recommended nominee for Ministerial appointment to the NSW Game and Pest Management Advisory Board (The Board).

Under the requirements of the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002, the members appointed to the Board are to include representatives of regional NSW, and are to be persons who together have expertise, skill or knowledge in pest management, wildlife, veterinary science, hunting, education and community engagement.

About the Game and Pest Management Advisory Board
The Game and Pest Management Advisory Board (the Board) primary role is to advise the Minister for Agriculture and Western NSW (the Minister) and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (the Department) on important matters relating to hunting and game and pest animal management.

A request has been received seeking nominations for a representative with experience, skill and /or knowledge in Veterinary Science and/or practice to be considered for appointment to the Board.

Board members are appointed by the Minister for a term of up to 5 years.

The Board is independent from the Department (DPIRD Hunting Unit), however administration support for Board activities is provided by the Department.
Board Charter

The functions of the Board are to:
· Represent the interests of licensed game hunters in matters arising under the Game and Feral Animal Control Act 2002;

· Provide advice on request to the Minister or the Regulatory Authority on game and feral animal control;

· Provide advice on request to the Minister on priorities for expenditure on research from the Game and Pest Management Trust Fund; and

· Provide advice to the Minister or the Regulatory Authority on educational courses relating to game hunting.

The Board is required to meet a minimum of 2 times per year, however extraordinary meetings may be scheduled from time to time where an urgent matter needs to be considered by the Board.

Some travel by members will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.

Remuneration
Members of the Board will be entitled to sitting fees of $220 per day for members in accordance with the Classification and Remuneration Framework for NSW Boards and Committees. Meal, accommodation and travel reimbursements will also be available.

Requirements:
The Board is appointed according to the NSW Government Boards and Committee Guidelines 2015Expressions are sought from candidates demonstrating their experience in Veterinary science and/or practice.

  • High-level demonstrated expertise, skill or knowledge in one or more of the following areas may also be beneficial: game and feral animal hunting; pest animal management, education and/or research; wildlife management, education and/or research; Education; community engagement.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning processes.
  • Knowledge of the workings of Government, especially the work of boards and committees and how they inform and impact upon policy.
  • The ability to formulate sound advice.
  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working with industry, government and other partners.
  • Knowledge of audit, reporting and risk management.
  • Skills in summarising information and arguments.
  • Sound communication and collaboration skills, and commitment to high ethical standards and teamwork.
  • Ability to travel to meetings or other engagements of the Board as required
