AVA Victorian Division President Inspires Future Vets at the University of Melbourne Clinical Commencement Ceremony

The University of Melbourne recently celebrated its Class of 2027 at the Veterinary Clinical Commencement Ceremony, marking an important milestone as third-year veterinary students prepare to enter their final year of study, with a focus on clinical placements.

Dr Suff Suharju, President of the AVA Victorian Division, joined the celebrations as a guest speaker, encouraging students to embrace three guiding principles as they embark on the next chapter of their veterinary journey: be curious, be present, and be compassionate. Dr Suff reminded students that becoming a veterinarian is not simply about developing clinical knowledge and skills, but also about the experiences, relationships, and choices that shape them as individuals and professionals. He encouraged students to remain open to learning, appreciate the journey, and extend compassion to their patients, clients, colleagues and themselves. Dr Suff also presented students with their scrub tops, supported by the AVA, symbolising their transition into clinical training.

The AVA sincerely appreciates the veterinary practices and professionals who support students through clinical placements and encourages more practices to consider offering these valuable learning opportunities.
