This week veterinarians and veterinary nurses from across Western Australia came together for a highly successful WA Veterinary Community Information & Social Evening, delivered in partnership by the WA Division of the AVA, the Veterinary Practice Board of WA (VPB) and the WA Veterinary Nurses Council Association (VNCA)
The well-attended event provided practical and timely information on the new VPB CPD requirements that came into effect from 1 July 2026, including a live demonstration of the new CPD recording portal. Attendees also heard updates from both the AVA and VNCA, including information about the AVA’s new all-inclusive membership model.
Beyond the informative presentations, the evening offered a valuable opportunity for members of the veterinary community to reconnect and strengthen professional networks over a relaxed social gathering.
The strong attendance and positive feedback highlighted the appetite for collaborative events that bring together veterinarians, veterinary nurses and sector stakeholders. We hope this will be the first of many such gatherings, creating a regular forum for learning, connection and community across the Western Australian veterinary profession.

Get involved: AVA submission to the WA Cat Act Review
The Western Australian Government is undertaking a statutory review of the Cat Act 2011 and is seeking feedback from veterinarians, animal welfare organisations, local governments and the wider community. The review covers key aspects of cat management, including registration, identification, sterilisation, breeding, enforcement and broader cat management approaches.
The AVA will prepare a submission to inform the review. The AVA’s position will be underpinned by existing AVA policy, including the Management of Cats in Australia , which promotes responsible cat ownership, cat welfare and protection of wildlife and public health.
