ACV PREGCHECK™ Accredited Pregnancy Tester (Manual)

Free

PREGCHECK™, or the National Cattle Pregnancy Diagnosis Scheme (NCPD), seeks to promote excellence in cattle pregnancy testing skills, by way of peer-based assessment and the provision of educational material.

Who should attend

Cattle veterinarians with All Access and Australian Cattle Veterinarians (ACV) special interest group (SIG) membership.

Learning outcomes

PREGCHECK™ cattle pregnancy testing can only be performed by an accredited member of Australian Cattle Veterinarians who has demonstrated knowledge and experience in the pregnancy diagnosis of cattle, and undergone an examination by their peers.

Currently the most popular and effective methods of pregnancy diagnosis are rectal palpation and ultrasonography; and these are the only methods approved for pregnancy diagnosis in the PREGCHECK™ professional reproductive examination.

PREGCHECK™ applicants must first apply to become accredited as Manual testers (per-rectal palpation). Once PREGCHECK™-accredited, interested vets can apply to bcome Ultrasound accredited additionally.

Manual PREGCHECK testing (Per-rectal Palpation):

  • Palpation of the uterus, the foetus and the placenta through the rectum.
  • This widely adopted method of pregnancy detection is an inexpensive, reliable and accurate diagnostic technique.
  • A skilled operator can diagnose pregnancy from 35 days after insemination.
